In Tiger news yesterday, the won again

Justin Verlander went a season low 6 innings last night at Minnesota. He gave up 4 runs on back-to-back home runs in the 5th inning and a 2 run double in the 6th. But he hung in there and battled and the offense and bullpen helped. In the end, Verlander became the first pitcher to 20 wins on the season. Verlander becomes the first Tiger pitcher to win 20 since Bill Gullickson in 1991. He's the first pitcher to reach 20 before the end of August since Curt Schilling in 2002.

Jose Valverde earned save 39.

Miguel Cabrera was 2-4, hit his 24th home run, and had 2 RBIs. Alex Avila hit his 17th home run and was also 2-4. Ryan Raburn had an RBI double. Delmon Young was 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Austin Jackson also drove in a run.

Detroit has now won 7 of its last 8 games with the 6-4 victory.
