Last night the Royals pounded Max Scherzer for 7 runs on 10 hits in 3 innings pitched. They connected for 3 home runs to drop Scherzer to 13-8 on the season. Detroit fell 9-5.
Miguel Cabrera had an RBI double. Victor Martinez, Delmon Young, and Ramon Santiago also drove in runs. But the pitching wasn't there. KC hit 3 homers and had 4 doubles.
Tonight, Ramon Santiago hit a walk-off home run with 1 out in the bottom of the 10th to send Detroit to a 2-1 win. For Santiago, who entered the game as a pinch runner in the bottom of the 9th, it was his 4th home run of the season.
Magglio Ordonez had a 2-out single in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game at 1. In the bottom of the ninth KC walked Alex Avila, Jhonny Peralta, and Ryan Raburn with 2 outs, but Wilson Betemit struck out.
Doug Fister took a no-hitter into the 7th inning before allowing a leadoff double. That runner came home to score on a sac fly to give KC the 1-0 lead. Fister allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 7.2 innings pitched, but got no run support. While he'd allowed no hits through 6, Detroit only had 1 hit through 6.
Joaquin Benoit matched his season high with 2 innings pitched. He earned the win, to up his record to 4-3 on the season.
