Michigan is back in a bowl game

Michigan will be making its first bowl appearance of the Rich Rodriguez era against Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day.  New Year's Day has lost a lot of its luster to me since most of the premiere bowls are now played after the first to get exclusive prime time coverage.  But I'll have one of my teams playing on New Year's Day.

I guess we'll see if Rich Rodriguez is actually coaching the game, embattled as he is.  I would be very surprised if he was fired before the bowl game.  That's because Jim Harbaugh is the guy that rumor has it that they want.  It would make sense, but I just can't see Harbaugh leaving Stanford and not coaching them in a BCS game.  So if it happens it would be afterwards.  And if Harbaugh won't bite I don't know that Michigan would make a coaching move.  They could keep working on Harbaugh that way.  Harbaugh played under Bo Schembechler though and now uses that classic Michigan style, which has worked well for Stanford this year.

But one way or the other, Michigan has Mississippi State.
