Daniel Schlereth gave up 6 runs in 1.1 innings of work in Tuesday's game. Phil Coke got shelled in yet another start on Wednesday, to fall to 1-8 on the season. By no means were they the only pitchers to have bad days on those two days, but for them it's been a recurring theme.
Daniel Schlereth was sent down to Toledo to get his command back. Brayan Villerreal, who was on the roster to start the season, was called back up.
For Coke the seemingly inevitable move back to the bullpen came. I figured this would happen at some point. He was too good in the pen last year and has struggled too much as a starter this season. Charlie Furbush has been moved in the starting rotation, in what could be an early look at 2012 since nobody really expects Brad Penny to be back with the Tigers next season, having only signed a 1 year deal at a pretty cheap price.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Detroit make some move for another pitcher at the trading deadline, unless Furbush and his potentially dominating stuff makes a better transition than Coke, and he catches lightning in a bottle.
