Tigers stage another late rally to beat the Blue Jays last night

Toronto visited Detroit last night to make up a rainout from their earlier series last month. Detroit won 4-2, scoring 2 runs in the 8th. Jhonny Peralta delivered an RBI triple. Ryan Raburn grounded out to score Peralta and add an insurance run.

Max Scherzer allowed 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 9 in 7 innings. But he wasn't around by the time the offense arrived. Joaquin Benoit earned the win, pitching a hitless 8th. He improved his record to 2-3 on the season. Jose Valverde pitched the 9th for his 18th save of the season. He put runners on the corners with 2 outs but induced a game ending double play.

Victor Martinez was 2-4 with an RBI double and an RBI single. Brennan Boesch was 2-4 with a double. Miguel Cabrera, Magglio Ordonez, and Peralta were also 2-4.

I'd thought it was the Giants coming to town next but it's actually the Mets. That series starts tonight. Detroit is going to play games on 17 straight days after last Thursday's off-day, in part because of games being scheduled into previous off-days to makeup rainouts, like last night.
