Bring On The Madness

March Madness now hits fever pitch. The mid-majors had their conference tournaments starting last weekend. UNCA punched its ticket.

Now it's the big boys' turn. The Big East started their first round today. St. John's escaped with a win on its secondary home floor of The Garden. In a 2 point game against Rutgers, St. John's committed 2 fouls in about the final 6 seconds, including on the deciding half court inbounds pass. After the non-foul call, St. Johns recovered the loose ball, took 3 steps without a dribble with about 2 seconds left, stepped out of bounds with 1.7 seconds left, and threw the ball out of bounds with time remaining. Based on what happened to that Louisville cheerleader who got T-ed up for taking the ball and throwing it as the horn expired (despite the fact that it took a replay to put 0.2 seconds back on the clock) against Pitt, that should have been called a T.

So 2 fouls, a travel, stepping out of bounds, and a T for throwing the ball with time still on the clock. And still 2 seconds to play. Except the refs called nothing. They swallowed their whistles and walked off the floor. Or they got hit in the head by a steel chair by Pitt, who turned heel in order to screw over Rutgers for some previous slight, thus missing the pivotal call. And somewhere Vince McMahon nodded in approval.

Tomorrow the main event begins. The ACC Tournament. I already moved my work laptop and my nice office chair from our office bedroom to my bedroom, so I can be next to my TV while I work.

Jo helped me rearrange my work environment but doesn't understand. "It's the ACC Tournament." That says it all. If you understand, nothing more needs to be said.
