I think I'm now officially starting to think "AL Central Champions"! I didn't even know the Tiger game was on TV as FOX's game of the week. I turned to FOX looking for another football game after the end of the NC State game.
Just in time to see Brandon Inge hit a walk-off solo home run with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th to propel Detroit to a 3-2 win over Minnesota. The win was their 8th straight. They've won 10 of 12 and 18 of 22.
For Inge it was his 3rd home run of the season, and second since he was recalled from Toledo. I just read that one of Inge's other 2 home runs was a walk-off game winner. He did it against the Rangers on April 13th. I'm sure that's in the ol' blog but I'd forgotten. That's something...3 home runs on the season, but 2 of them are walk-off game winners.
Wilson Betemit hit his 4th home run as a Tiger. So both halves of Detroit's current 2-headed third baseman monster hit homers. Victor Martinez also had an RBI. Ramon Santiago was 2-3 with a double. Detroit was held to 6 hits, its fewest in awhile, but 4 of those were for extra bases.
Al Alburqueque earned the win after pitching a perfect 9th. He's 6-1 on the season. Max Scherzer started and gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings pitched. He struck out 6.
Detroit's Magic Number is now 9, with Cleveland and Chicago tied at 3 in the 10th inning as I type this. I guess if Cleveland wins the Magic Number will be 8. It doesn't really matter though since they are only separated by a half game.
