Detroit pounded the White Sox for the second time in 8 days, ringing up 14 runs on 21 hits. Last Sunday the final was 18-2. Tonight it was 14-4.
Ryan Raburn was 4-5 with his 12th home run of the season, a double, and 3 RBIs. Jhonny Peralta was 2-3 with a 2-run home run, his 19th of the season, and 3 RBIs. Peralta and Raburns's home runs were back-to-back in the second inning.
Alex Avila was 2-5 with a double and 2 RBIs. Victor Martinez was 2-4 with an RBI. Miguel Cabrera had an RBI double. Ramon Santiago entered the game during Detroit's 6 run 6th inning to pinch run for Magglio Ordonez. He came around to score, then later came to the plate in the same inning and hit a 2-run double.
Brandon Inge was 3-5 with a double as well. In a nice moral victory he has his batting average over .200, at .204. As has happened frequently lately, every Tiger starter had a base hit, and 10 Tigers in all had hits.
Rick Porcello took advantage of all the offense. He started out a bit shaky but settled down. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits in 6.2 innings pitched. He walked 3, all in the first two innings before he settled down after surrendering a run in both the first and second inning. Porcello is now 14-8 on the season.
The 10 game winning streak is Detroit's longest since an 11 game streak in September of 1968. That hot streak propelled them to a World Series victory in 7 games over the Cardinals.
Detroit's Magic Number is now 5. They have an 11.5 game lead over both Chicago and Cleveland with 15 games to play. With the streak and Boston's 5 game losing streak Detroit has now pulled to within percentage points of the second best record in the American League.
