If my personal memory serves, yesterday was Detroit's first "game after clinching" since 1984. In 1987 I believe they clinched the AL East on the last day of the season after beating second place Toronto in the final game of the season.
In 2006 they lost their final game to lose the Central to Minnesota, but they still claimed the AL Wild Card.
Rick Porcello was sharp, allowing 3 run in 7 innings pitched. He didn't get any early run support though and fell to 14-9 on the season. Ryan Perry gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in a third of an inning to extend the Oakland lead. Detroit rallied in the 9th on a 2-run pinch hit single by Don Kelly, but it wasn't enough.
Jhonny Peralta also drove in a run. Magglio Ordonez was 3-4. He's now got his batting average up to .252 on the season.
