It was rookie night in Detroit

Charlie Furbush made his Major League debut after Phil Coke had to leave the game with an ankle injury with 1 out in the 4th against Tampa. Furbush, one of the most highly touted pitchers in the Detroit organization, was called up 2 days ago when Brad Thomas had to go on the DL with an inflamed elbow. Furbush got his first big league win in his debut, giving up 2 hits in 3.2 innings of relief. He worked out of a bases loaded 1 out jam in his first inning of work with back to back strikeouts.

Andy Dirks hit his first big league home run. Victor Martinez had a 2-run double. Jhonny Peralta drove in 2, and Miguel Cabrera had an RBI.

Jose Valverde got out of a jam after giving up a couple runs in the 9th. Detroit won 6-3, for their second straight win after 5 losses.

It marked the first time in the last 9 games that Detroit had scored more than 3 runs in a game.
