Tigers win their second in a row

Max Scherzer allowed 4 hits in 8 dominant shutout innings. He struck out 9, to improve his record to 5-0. Al Alburquerque closed out the 9th in the 4-0 win over the Yankees.

Magglio Ordonez was 2-4 with a 2-run homer, his first of the season. He was moved th 6th in the order as a result of his slump. This was his second straight multi-hit game and he has 3 of his 4 RBIs on the season in the last two games. Maybe his ankle is starting to come around so as not to affect his hitting.

Miguel Cabrera had an RBI double and Jhonny Peralta also drove in a run.

Brennan Boesch was 2-4 hitting third. Alex Avila was also 2-4 with a double, and stole a base. Scott Sizemore played 2nd and hit 2nd again. He was 1-4 with a stolen base. Victor Martinez was 1-3 in his return from the disabled list.

Detroit improved its record to 14-17 on the season.

Earlier today it was announced that Joel Zumaya will undergo exploratory surgery on his elbow to determine the cause of lingering pain. That should shut him down for the season.
