On Friday, Justin Verlander was tagged for 5 runs, 4 earned, in 6 innings of work against the White Sox. He fell to 12-5 on the season. Detroit's lone offense came when Magglio Ordonez struck out but reached on a passed ball. Miguel Cabrera then followed with his 19th home runs of the season. Chicago won 8-2. Cabrera and Victor Martinez each had 2 hits.
Last night, former Tiger Edwin Jackson rolled with a complete game shutout. Detroit went down 5-0. Max Scherzer allowed 2 runs in 8 innings, but fell to 10-5 on the season. Alex Avila was 2-4 with a double. Jhonny Peralta was also 2-4. In what is hopefully good news, Carlos Guillen made his first appearance in 11 months. He played second base and was 1-4 on the night.
