Rick Porcello gave up a solo home run on his second pitch of the game. It looked like it could be another tough pitching night, but he settled down to allow only 1 more run, and 5 hits overall in 8 innings pitched. He upped his record to 11-6 on the season.
The offense gave him plenty of support. Victor Martinez was 3-5 with a double and 4 RBIs. Carlos Guillen was 2-4 with a double, a triple, and also had 4 RBIs. Brennan Boesch was 2-3 and hit a solo home run, his 15th of the season. Ramon Santiago was 3-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Alex Avila was 2-4 with an RBI, and Don Kelly also drove in a run. Detroit rolled 12-2. Coupled with Cleveland getting shut out 12-0 by the Royals, Detroit's lead in the Central increased to a season high 2.5 games.
