Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila were both named starters on the AL All-Star team. Avila has had a great year, really blossoming since the starting catcher job was given to him. He's earned his first All-Star appearance. Cabrera earned his second as a Tiger I think.
Justin Verlander and Jose Valverde will be joining them on the AL All-Star team. Victor Martinez is one of the players in the final fan vote to name the last spot among 5 candidates.
All well-deserving. I'd have liked to see Jhonny Peralta make the team. Derek Jeter earned the starting nod. Peralta is having a better season. I voted for Peralta because he's having a great year (and a Tiger) but Derek Jeter is Derek Jeter. He's earned a career achievement selection. And he goes into today's game 4 hits shy of 3000. So come the All-Star Game he'll either have just reached 3000 or be very, very close. Either way the achievement or soon to be over the next game or two achievement is deserving of accolades and cheers during the All-Star festivities, the player intros, and the game itself. I'd like to see Peralta as a late addition if anyone ends up not being able to play.
