the Tigers avoided a sweep on Sunday

Carlos Guillen's first RBI of the season, a single, punctuated a 3 run 6th inning that brought Detroit back from a 3-0 deficit. Victor Martinez also had a 2-run single in the inning. Brennan Boesch hit his 13th homer of the season.

Brad Penny got the win, allowing 3 runs and scatting 9 hits in 6.2 innings pitched. He improved to 7-6 on the season. Penny survived a rocky second inning where he gave up 3 runs and 2 of the 3 outs were well hit fly balls deep to center field, that were luckily hit to the deepest part of the park. He looked shaky but righted the ship.

The trio of Al Alberquerque, Joaquin Benoit, and Jose Valverde then locked the game down. Valverde earned his 25th save of the season.
