Tigers last two games of the first half vs. Kansas City

Detroit got hammered on Saturday then won on Sunday.

Saturday had Charlie Furbush on the mound. He again showed that he may not be the answer that Detroit needs as their fifth starter. He gave up 9 runs on 9 hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Furbush fell to 1-3 on the season.

Detroit hit a bit, but the final was 13-6 Kansas City.

Brennan Boesch was 3-5 with 2 RBIs. Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, and Ramon Santiago also drove in runs. Ryan Raburn was 2-3 with 2 doubles.

Sunday had Justin Verlander on the mound and that usually means good things. Sunda was no different. Verlander gave up 1 unearned run in 7.2 innings pitched. He struck out 9. Tiger bats gave him just enough support to earn a win. He's 12-4 on the season and became the first Tigers pitcher since Jack Morris in 1987 to have 12 wins at the All-Star Break.

Magglio Ordonez and Brennan Boesch had RBI singles for Detroit. The Tigers won 3-1. With the win and an Indian loss Detroit headed into the break in first place, a half game up on the Indians. Detroit heads into the break with a 49-43 record.

There is much cause for optimism in the second half but much cause for alarm.
