I'd say it's pretty much a given that something will be happening before the trade deadline tomorrow afternoon, but the question of what, and who Detroit will be parting ways with, remains.
CBSSportsonline is reporting that Detroit is close to acquiring Doug Fister and reliever David Pauley from the Mariners. Pauley has a 2.15 ERA in 39 appearances for the Mariners. He'd add insurance to the bullpen, especially with Detroit now concerned about Al Alburquerque's arm. Alburquerque has been unavailable the last 2 games due to some soreness and inflammation in the forearm of pitching arm. He's gone to the 15-Day DL just before the All-Star break for the same problem. After the break he's pitched 4.1 scoreless innings but there's some concern since the issue has apparently returned.
In their end of the trade Seattle is rumored to receive Charlie Furbush and Casper Wells. That's the rumor at least. Jacob Turner is not part of that trade according to this particular rumor, but is starting tonight and will be taking Furbush's spot as the current long reliever in the bullpen.
EDIT: Just to show how how speculative the rumor mill is, a tweet from a Fox Sports analyst says that Detroit is back in the running for Jimenez, possibly out front, as they have changed their mind and decided to include Turner in a possible trade.
Ultimately though the fact that the number one super-prospect in Detroit's farm system was pulled from a start tonight and isn't even with his minor league team right now means something, when it happens right at the trading deadline. Either he's moving or he's coming up to replace someone who's moving.
