Detroit was up 5-2 against Cleveland with none out in the 7th. Max Scherzer had given up 2 runs (the previous inning) in that time. He then gave up a leadoff homer. 5-3.
He got a couple outs but then walked Grady Sizemore as his pitch count hit about 100. The next batter hit a homer. Tie game.
Exit lead. Exit Scherzer.
Joaquin Benoit then gave up 2 hits and an intentional walk in the bottom of the 9th to step into a bases loaded no out situation. He got a strikeout, then fell behind 3-1.
He needed a strike to avoid the game winning bases loaded walk. Carlos Santana was waiting on it, and drove it over the right field fence for a walk-off grand slam. Detroit lost 9-5.
Detroit has lost 4 in a row to fall 2 under .500. Cleveland has won 11 home games in a row.
Miguel Cabrera hit a 2-run homer, his 6th of the season. Alex Avila was 2-2 with a double and 2 RBIs. Jhonny Peralta also drove in a run.
Ryan Raburn was 2-5 with a double. Austin Jackson was also 2-5.
