the Tigers starting production is on par with the last couple years

Unfortunately that production is "not good". Brad Penny's first Tiger start (on TV on FOX ooooof course) has not been good. So far Penny has given up 6 runs on 5 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikouts in 2 innings of work. Mark Texiera has hit his 2nd 3-run homer of the season. He's now got more homers and RBIs than the Tigers through 2 games.

So far Brad Penny's line is very Jeremy Bonderman-esque. or Armando Gallaraga-esque. Or Dontrelle Willis-eque. Or Nate Robertson-esque. Or Jared Washburn-esque.

It's way too early to worry. Detroit's gone up against a couple very good pitchers. It's the first two games of the season, and playing at Yankee Stadium in the season opening series isn't easy.

But one of their woes last year was that they were dreadful on the road. They have to improve that. Austin Jackson has struck out 4 times in 5 at-bats. The other was a hit and a run scored. Again, if he can put the ball in play lots of good things happen. He just needs to put it in play more.
