Tigers got blown out last night

The game at Seattle started badly and stayed that way. Phil Coke has pitched well as a starter, but not last night. He walked 4 in the first inning, including one with the bases loaded, gave up 4 hits, and committed an error. He gave up 4 runs, though none were earned as a result of his error.

In the end, he gave up 6 runs, 2 earned, in 3.1 innings pitched before the hook finally came to fall to 1-3 on the season.

Detroit pitchers walked 11 batters. They gave up a 5 run 7th inning to go along with the 4 run 1st, in a 13-3 rout.

Brennan Boesch was 3-4 with a double. Miguel Cabrera was 2-5 with an RBI. Alex Avila and Jhonny Peralta also drove in runs.

But Detroit squandered any chances at a comeback. They had runners at second and third with no out in the second inning and could score only once. Twice they had the bases loaded with 1 out and did not score. The Tigers fell to 8-10 on the season.

In the slump department, Austin Jackson was 0-5 with 3 strikeouts. He's now hitting .152 on the year. I don't believe he has a multi-hit game.

Victor Martinez was placed on the 15-day DL as a result of his groin strain. Omir Santos got the call up to be the backup catcher. He pinch-hit for Alex Avila in the 9th and singled for his first Tiger hit.
