Detroit went on the road to Oakland and beat the Athletics 3-0. Phil Coke earned his first major league victory as a starter. He pitched 7 innings of 3-hit ball. Joaquin Benoit pitched a perfect 8th and Jose Valverde a perfect 9th for his 3rd save of the season. Coke is now 1-2 on the season. His ERA dropped to 2.24. He's been the second best starter so far after Verlander, since he pitched well enough to win in his first start but got no run support.
Not that he got much last night ether, but Ryan Raburn had a 2-out RBI double in the 7th inning to break a scoreless tie. Ramon Santiago had a bases loaded sac fly. Brennan Boesch also scored after the left fielder's throw to third was met by nobody covering the bag, so the throw went into the dugout. That's 2 bases for all the runners, so Boesch was sent home from second, to account for the 3-0 final. Detroit had only 4 hits. Santiago was 2-3 with a run scored and the RBI.
Detroit's winning streak is up to 3. They're now 6-7 on the season.
